Everyone seems to be talking about CBD.

You hear of it all the time in the form of things such as cocktails, coffee and smoothie add-ons, anti-stress supplements, massage oils, and the like. But, what does it actually do?

At Spruce and Honey, we’ve been carrying a variety of CBD products for the past year, and have become absolutely obsessed with this new wellness ritual.

We know there’s a lot of misinformation out there (along with a lot of myths), so we wanted to break things down for you and show you why CBD could be just the thing you’re missing from your wellness routine.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring compound found in the cannabis flower. As a safe, non-addictive substance, CBD is one of more than a hundred “phytocannabinoids,” which are unique to cannabis and endow the plant with its robust therapeutic profile. (source: project CBD)

How does it work?

CBD helps activate your body’s endocannabinoid system, which maintains balance in the nervous system, digestive tract, immune system, stress and mood response, and inflammatory response.

What does it do?

We know what you’re thinking – will it get me high? And the answer is simply, no.

Think of CBD like a Magnesium supplement. Once you take it, it gives your system a chance to regulate and relax itself. If taken over time, your body starts to more easily adapt to certain stressors that come into your life (stress, muscle fatigue, digestion, inflammation, trouble sleeping, etc).

Studies have shown that CBD can help with stress and anxiety, pain and inflammation, muscle soreness, trouble sleeping, acne, depression, and even that not-so-enjoyable visit from Mother Nature. The benefits are vast.

Different ways to use CBD.

1.     Sublingual

It’s a direct and fast way to consume CBD and works in any situation, usually in the form of oils, tinctures, lozenges, and sprays.

With this method, it enters through the glands under the tongue, takes effect quickly, and delivers a high concentration of CBD into the bloodstream.

2.     Oral:

Usually in the form of edibles, capsules, beverages, and oils, it’s a subtle and balanced process that’s great for beginners who want less intensity and may be sensitive to taste and/or smell.

Taking it orally processes through the metabolism, slowly delivering a lower concentration of CBD to the bloodstream. Effects take longer to kick in, but also last longer.

3.     Topical:

And finally, taking it topically in the form of oils, creams, lotions, salves, and serums provide localized relief.

This way is great for workout recovery, muscle pain, or those dreaded menstrual cramps. Topical products are absorbed by the skin, but do NOT enter the bloodstream.

At Spruce and Honey, we carry three lines of CBD-specific products including Plant People, Mender and Dram Dose. We have a variety of products that span from face creams to lotions, and daily supplements to concentrated oils. Stop by our shop to check our full product line and get started on a wellness routine that works.

As you can see, our love for CBD goes way beyond the trend. If this is something that interests you, we encourage you to chat with your friends who have tried CBD, reach out to your local physician, or stop by our shop to learn a little more. You never know – this could be what your routine is missing.

Happy Trails,
